There are many reasons why a hearing aid will not work and you should systematically check the possible causes.
- Check that it is switched on.
- Check that it is not on the loop (T) setting in error.
- Check that the volume control is not set too low.
- Check that the battery is in position correctly.
- Change the battery.
- Check that there is no blockage in the tube or in the receiver outlet.
Checks for a Behind the ear (BTE) hearing aid
- Check that the ear mould is clean and there is no residual wax preventing it from working.
- Make sure the tubing isn’t split, crushed or twisted.
- Check that there is no condensation or little droplets of moisture inside the tubing.
Checks for an In the Ear (ITE) hearing aid
- Check that it is not blocked with wax.
- Check the battery using a battery tester and check it is inserted correctly.
- Check that there is acoustic feedback present by cupping the aid in your hand.
If any problems persist after these checks then you should return the hearing aid back to your hearing care professional.
